Review of the Avaya 1408 Phone
Review of the Avaya 1408 Telephone for Business Phone Systems
Avaya handily wins the first place for sales in digital/ VoIP hybrid systems with the award winning Avaya IP Office. CSM sells and installs this system in all our markets. After purchasing Nortel in 2008, Avaya has migrated their customer base to the IP Office, replacing the former Nortel BCM, AT&T Partner, and Avaya IP Office V1 product lines. The 1400 series of phones is the main family which is designed to operate on the Avaya IP Office telephone system.
The Avaya 1408, a replacement for the Nortel T7208 & Partner Phones
Two of the best selling products in the telephone world were the Nortel T7208 and the Partner phones. After completing the purchase of Nortel and the discontinuing of the Partner product line, Avaya successfully launched the 1400 series. The Avaya 1408 is both functional and beautifully designed. The Avaya 1408 has eight (8) programmable buttons in the middle of the phone, beneath the LCD screen, which can be used as line appearance, dss/ blf, or feature keys. In the bottom half of the phone are twelve (12) pre- programmed function keys including Redial, Conference, Hold, Transfer and other commonly used features. Above these are a voice mail button which illuminates with messages, and a directional pad for working in the screen. The nice sized LCD display also has three soft keys.
Visual Voice Mail on the Avaya 1408
When CSM trains our customers on the Avaya 1408, we commonly hear that the Visual Voice Mail is their favorite new feature. How does it operate? Basically, after the voicemail button is pressed, users can use the three soft keys beneath the screen for quickly moving through the voicemail utilizing playback options such as:
- Listen / Pause- Start/stop playback of the currently displayed message.
- Delete- Delete the message.
- More- Switch between the different sets of available soft key functions.
- Save- Mark the message as saved. Saved messages are not normally automatically deleted.
- Copy- Copy the message to another mailbox.
- Call- Call the person who left the message.
Conclusion on the Avaya 1408
The new Avaya 1408 easily satisfies the most businesses desire for a balance of price, functionality, and style. Users who are looking to move up to VoIP but do not want to invest in a costly data makeover will be impressed with the Avaya 1408 both for its ease of use and the familiar feature set. Former Nortel users will equally be happy with the quality of the phone. Nortel Tampa users fear not! Avaya has you covered with a simple to use phone that will be an easy transition for users. But if you are not quite ready to upgrade, CSM can service Nortel, Norstar, and Meridian systems until you are.
